KE:Transport Sector Support Project operates in Kenya.
The objectives of the Transport Sector Support Project for Kenya are to: (a) increase the efficiency of road transport along the Northern Corridor and the Tanzania-Kenya-Sudan road corridor; (b) enhance aviation safety and security to meet international standards; and (c) improve the institutional arrangements and capacity in the transport sector. There are four components to the project, the first component being rehabilitation and improvement of roads, roadside facilities and road safety interventions. This component will comprise: constructing the four interchanges at Nakuru-Nyahururu turnoff; Nakuru-Njoro turnoff; Mau Summit-Kisumu turnoff and Ahero-Kisii Turnoff; and supervising the construction works. The second component is the institutional strengthening and capacity building in the transport sector. This component will involve training road-sector manpower, particularly in areas related to management information systems and private sector participation in service delivery. The third component is the Support to Kenya Airports Authority (KAA). This component will comprise of the following: Provision of a new baggage-handling system at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA); and capacity building and training of manpower in safety, security and airports management. Finally, the fourth component is the support to the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA).
